John Sapien isn’t a politician first—he’s a family man, a small business owner, and someone who deeply understands the heart of Sandoval County. He’s spent years listening to the people who make this community thrive: working families, local businesses, and everyone in between.

As a former New Mexico State Senator and lifelong resident of the community, John has the experience and the passion to step up and get things done. His leadership style reflects the values we share—fairness, integrity, and a willingness to fight for what’s right.

For John, every challenge in our community is personal. Every small business represents someone's dream. Every family reflects a story of hope. And every child deserves the chance to grow up with bright opportunities ahead.

About John and Our Vision

What John Has Done: A Proven Track Record

Being “all talk” just isn’t John’s style. His work as a State Senator speaks for itself. Let’s unpack some of the ways John has made an impact during his public service:

Economic Support for Small Businesses

John knows firsthand how tough owning and operating a small business can be. That’s why he prioritized passing the Small Business Recovery Act of 2020, creating critical resources during one of the most challenging economic times our state has faced.

Whether by reducing red tape or ensuring local businesses get support, John’s work proves one thing: When our businesses thrive, our communities

thrive.

Advocating for Working Families

For John, family always comes first. He fought for better childcare services by passing the Child Care Assistance Accountability Act and led efforts to support parents with the Home Visiting Accountability Act.

But it doesn’t stop with childcare. John passed SB 120, which created greater access to early childhood care and education opportunities. Ensuring families have the vital support they need has always been at the core of his work.

Fighting for Fairness

Whether it was cracking down on illegal business practices with SB 58, ensuring fairness in workers' compensation policies, or standing up for consumer protections like the Theft Protection Program Warranties (SB 220), John has always fought to make sure that every system—whether in business, education, or government—works for the people.

"I’ve always believed in fairness,” John says. “If we don’t stand up for everyday families, no one will."

Education Leadership

Access to education shouldn’t be out of reach for anyone—whether it’s pre-k kids, high-schoolers, or college students. That’s why John led sweeping reforms in education, from modernizing advanced placement policies (SB 208) to giving colleges more flexibility to grow with SB 322.

And with the Early Childhood Care & Education Act (SB 120), he championed a foundation for lifelong learning, knowing that the successes our children achieve today will shape our community’s future.

Strengthening Public Safety

John knows that nothing matters more than safety—for our families, our schools, and our neighborhoods. That’s why he passed the Open Container Bill (SB 345) to eliminate dangerous loopholes, paired with investments to support local law enforcement and first responders (SB 234).

Safety is more than just policy—it’s having someone willing to fight for it day in and day out. That’s John.

Our vision for Sandoval County is simple:

  • A community that supports its local businesses, so they can keep providing for their neighbors.

  • Schools and programs that give every child the tools they need to succeed.

  • Infrastructure and policies that strengthen families, protect resources, and create opportunities.

  • A government that listens first and acts responsibly.

Our Shared Vision for Sandoval County

Why Sandoval County Needs John Sapien

When John looks at Sandoval County, he doesn’t just see policy challenges—he sees the people behind them. He sees the neighbor struggling to get by, the small-business owner trying to grow, and the child dreaming of a brighter future.

He’s running for County Commission because he knows he can make a difference—and he’s not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get to work.

If we want Sandoval County to grow responsibly—to lift up families and businesses while preserving what makes our community special—we need leadership with vision and experience.

“I know what it means to lead with purpose. I’ll always show up, listen, and fight for what matters most—because this is my home, just like it’s yours.”
